Meet the new Devotion Youth Worker!
|
Hello! My name is Peta and, as of June 2010, I am the new Youth Project Leader for Devotion. My husband Mark and I have moved here from Worthing on the South coast where I was Youth and Children's Worker for an Anglican parish. Before that I worked for 2 churches in Weston-Super-Mare (where I grew up) whilst getting my BA(hons) in Youth and Community Work with Applied Theology (What a mouthful!). Mark is also starting a new job at KPMG, a management consultancy in London. This will involve long hours and a long commute, and so we are currently looking for places to live closer to a train station! I've been told that people will probably want to find out a bit about me, so here's a brief intro! I'm 26, have been married to Mark for almost 2 years now, and have a younger brother and sister. I'm a big fan of reading (as you'll see from the bookshelf in the office!), most types of music and of watching films. Mark and I like to go running, and enjoy watching the West Wing, Alias, House, or Glee when we're not feeling so energetic! I'm also passionate about helping young people to realise their full potential and how a relationship with God can play a part that. I love the idea of the whole Church being involved in youth work - from praying to asking about a young person's day to sharing experiences or even playing football! I believe that younger and older people have much to teach each other, and that one of the strengths of the church is that stretches across generations. I'm also passionate about the Church being a force for good in the surrounding community - a foretaste of the Kingdom of God on earth. I hope that Devotion can prove a catalyst for all these things in Marlborough! I'm really excited about getting stuck into the Devotion project and Mark and I are so grateful for the welcome that you have given us. Over the next few months I will be working with the management team, young people and our volunteers to think about the direction the project should take and the impact we can continue to have in Marlborough. Mark and I will also be spending time visiting the churches in Marlborough, to decide where God wants us to worship as a couple. We would appreciate your prayers. And if you feel like it, please drop in and see me in the Youth Office, or send me an e-mail; I'd love to hear from you! |
